Kavala is a city located in Northern Greece. It is the principal seaport of Eastern Macedonia and the capital of Kavala regional unit. It is situated on the Bay of Kavala, opposite to the island of Thassos.
Kavala is located on the Egnatia motorway and is a one and a half-hour drive to Thessaloniki (160 Km west) and a forty-minute drive to Drama (37 km north) and Xanthi (56 km east).
Kavala is a modern, friendly city. However, its rich history that stretches from the 7th century BC to present is more than apparent. The Old Town (Panayia) with the Castle, the Old Aqueduct (Kamares), the Imaret Hotel, the Town Hall, the House of Mohamed Ali, and the Tobacco Museum are only some of the most interesting historical spots. Apart from attractions and museums, the city also offers delicious cuisine -particularly fish and seafood!-, picturesque streets for walks, and breathtaking viewpoints (do not forget to take photos!).
To summarize, if you are looking for a daily excursion near your apartment, Kavala is simply the best!
